| In this photo, Bob is finishing the
drawn portion of the steel.
The stock was first squared, then tapered, and then drawn out. You can see just a glint of cherry-red color in the taper. As Bob is now rounding off the square corners, he does not need as much heat as when he was "moving" metal. If you try to move metal or twist it at this low heat, you will damage the workpiece. Bob uses his tongs to roll the sharp edges so he can flatten them with light hammer blows. |
