Step-by-Step: Making an "S" Hook

The finished hook--note how it lays flat on the anvil.  Also note that this hook did not "grow" too much in length.  Thus, it retains its functionality. 

This hook was heated in a propane gas forge.  As a result, the metal does not take on the characteristic black color that a coal forge would give it.  There are various finishes and patinas that will color the metal to a more pleasing black, or natural color.
